Winter Cycling Program

Our Winter Cycling Program is designed to teach basic and advanced cycling skills for youth athletes.

For those 7-10 years of age: We focus on fundamental skills, such as, proper mounting, dismounting, cornering, shifting, use of clip-less pedals, and more. As these skills are perfected, the program transitions into teaching road riding fundamentals. Each athlete will learn to ride in single and double pace lines, as well as, how to comfortably ride on open roads with vehicular traffic. As with any program, safety is paramount and athletes will be grouped and trained according to their experience and ability.

For those 11-15 years of age: The advanced portion of this program provides athletes the opportunity to develop conditioning, experience, and racing skills necessary to race in a cycling criterium. For the Triathlete, these skills are paramount to successfully race in ITU draft-legal triathlons.

Program Times and Location: The program training days are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, Saturday from 8:00am to 9:30am, and Sunday from 2:00pm to 3:30pm.

Program Length, Start, and End Dates: 12 Weeks in length starting on January 14th, 2017 and ending on April 2nd, 2017.

Program Requirements: A road bicycle is required, as well as, a cycling helmet, cycling gloves, and tight fitting shorts. Clip-less pedals and cycling shoes are recommended but not required. Due to insurance requirements, USAT Memberships are required for all athletes. For older athletes who will be racing in USA Cycling events, a USAC License is also required.

Program Costs: The cost of the session is $185 and includes a Team polar water bottle. Team Cycling Jerseys are available for purchase.

Youth Elite Team:

The Youth Elite Team is for athletes ages 13-15* and its primary focus is developing athletes who will compete in the ITU World Cup and Olympic format of racing.  The ITU format of racing is draft legal; which allows athletes to draft during the bike leg of the race.  The bike course is usually more technical and closely mimics cycling criterium racing.  This adds an entirely different element to triathlons as it encourages team tactics throughout the race.

The Youth Elite Team’s primary focus is developing speed endurance and VO2 Max sessions, preparing them for draft legal triathlon racing. All team members will be encouraged to swim with a US Swimming Team year round and participate in USA Cycling Racing.

Cyclocross (CX) Programs

Many consider cyclocross to be a steeplechase with modified road bikes on a 2km course over hill and dale; others consider it muddy hell. Its roots can be traced to the early 1900s, when French army private Daniel Gousseau would ride his bicycle alongside horseback-riding friends through the woods. But it's also an immensely popular winter race discipline, guaranteed to get you fitter (and muddier) with an exceptional atmosphere to boot.

Our Cyclocross Cycling Program is designed to teach basic, advanced Cyclocorss cycling skills for youth athletes, and ultimately to have Fun! This program is great for developing advanced balance and bike handling skills, as well as, pure leg power.

Program Times and Location:  The program training days are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, and races are Saturday’s and Sunday’s during October through November.

Program Requirements: A mountain bike or cyclocross bike is required, as well as, a cycling helmet, cycling gloves, Clip-less pedals, and cycling shoes. Due to insurance requirements, USAT Memberships are required for all athletes. For older athletes who will be racing in USA Cycling events, a USAC License is also required.
